St. Peter’s Tin Tabernacle
St. Peter’s Tin TabernacleSt. Peter’s Church Of Ireland (1891) is a church made from corrugated iron sheets. It is said that it was brought back to Laragh by the mill owner and his wife from their honeymoon in Switzerland where she saw and fell in love with it. Designed in a Swiss-gothic hybrid style, the church is constructed entirely out of corrugated iron and sites in a small narrow wooded valley alongside the river. The landscaping around the church is designed to imitate and suggest a small mountain glade with rocky outcrops around the church. The village was a milling village and its story in the 18th & 19th century deserves a place in the industrial history of Co. Monaghan. The population of Laragh village and surrounding areas increased during the famine but crumbled and collapsed when the mills closed.

Dark Hedges
Dark HedgesPlanted beech trees in the 1700’s by the stuart family for the road leading up to their house at gracehill. Now made famous as the scene of the Kings road in Game Of Thrones. And visited by thousands every year since. This shot was taken before GOT where it was a hidden secret and you could spend many minutes without meeting another person or car.

Lisronagh Old Church
Lisronagh Old ChurchThis was one of those chance finds as we drove from location to location, which can be very rewarding. The grounds where all over the place, as in parts sinking along with rabbit holes underfoot, making walking round sometimes tricky in the long cut grass. Unfortunately inside was heavily overgrown as its now a roofless ruin. Built In 1831.
