The mill was founded in 1835 and is a large complex of now listed buildings, the most prominent of which was built in 1853 by William Henry Lynn of Lanyon, Lynn and Lanyon, Belfast. This is a large five-storey, built in Italianate style of grey ashlar stone quarried locally, with yellow brick extensions added in 1884 to 1900. There is also the three-storey "Old Mill". behind and other outer buildings which held the training and engineering workshops, the old turbine room which still holds the machinery and at one time provided 1000 water horsepower, for the mill. There is newer turbines installed on site but these are still in daily use.
This was taken not long after I first got access to the buildings and spend many weeks photographing it all. As now most of what you see in the picture has now been burnt by arsonists. It is now mostly a empty shell.
